The Making of a FlexScan Monitor

Introduction Production Line Characteristics A Tour of Our Production Line

FlexScan Production Line Characteristics

Here is a brief introduction to the human and technological characteristics that go into making a FlexScan monitor.

Employee Expertise

Manufacturing the highest quality monitors starts with training our staff so they possess necessary skills before they step onto the factory floor. We have established a training center within our factory where new employees get these skills and veteran employees can acquire new ones. For example, 2.5 days of training and then passing an exam is required before new employees can work on simple assembly tasks. More advanced skills such as safety inspection and packaging can require from two weeks to two months of training before workers can perform these tasks.

Our training consists of studying written materials and then "hands-on" practice where workers perfect the skills they will use in the factory.

Many EIZO manufacturing employees have been with the company for more than a decade. Worker retention is essential to perform specialized tasks. Putting personal importance and worth in our manufacturing process has the added benefits of encouraging creativity, evolution, and making our factory processes evermore efficient, environmentally sound, and globally competitive.

Employee Expertise

  • Our training center includes a simulated assembly line. Like on the actual assembly line, overhead monitors with assembly instructions are provided for reference.

Digital Instructions

Each work station on the production line has an overhead screen with instructions about the assembly procedure. This improves productivity because workers do not have to leave the assembly line and consult a printed manual if a question arises about the production process. Since several models are manufactured on the same line in one day, the instructions on the screen change in accordance with the data read from the RFID tag used with each monitor.

Digital Instructions

RFID Tag

An RFID (radio-frequency identification) tag about 3 cm in width is affixed to the palette on which each monitor is manufactured to ensure the following.

  • The proper digital instructions are displayed on overhead screens during the assembly process.
  • The monitor can be identified by automated equipment.
  • Traceability for improved quality control.

Automatic Screw Insertion Machine

This machine recognizes a product through its RFID tag and automatically inserts screws in rapid succession.

Screen Inspection Devices

At different points on the production line, a CCD (charge coupled device) camera is used to check and adjust the monitor's image quality.
